Elegant Autumn

Following a gloriously hot summer with plenty of rosé, now it’s time for some elegant reds, as we make the most of the Autumn sunshine, before the cold winter evenings encourage us to indulge in robust reds.

My coup de cœur wine region at the moment is Côtes du Rhône. With a selection of 7 different Rhône wines, ranging from €9.00 to €23.00, there is a bottle to suit every meal and every occasion.

Domaine de la Fourmente; ‘Amour de fruit’, Côtes du Rhône.

Grapes : 70% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 15% Syrah. Bio-Dynamic

Delicate red fruit aromas, redcurrants and cherries, with hints of herbes de Provence, and laurier.

The palate is dry, with a lovely freshness, with red fruit flavours, raspberries, and hints of liquorice. A lovely elegant wine with a lingering fruity, spicy finish. Ideal as an aperitif or with food. Can be served slightly chilled in warm weather.

Mas de Libian, Côtes du Rhône,

Grapes : 75% Grenache, Syrah,Mourvèdre. Bio-Dynamic

Deep purple robe, with aromas of black fruits, spices, pepper, cloves, laurel, and leather. Perfect with a slow cooked lamb on the barbeque.

Montirius, ‘Garrigues’, Vacqueyras, Rhône .

Grapes : 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah . Bio-Dynamic

A full-bodied Grenache and Syrah blend that combines intense, ripe, spicy black cherries and dried herbs with a savoury minerality. Fine tannins from ageing in cement rather than oak. The long, complex finish punches well above its price. Great value. Organic wine with very little sulfites.
